Day One
7:30a – 8:30a – Opening Welcome & Keynote
8:30a -11:00 – “Live to See Another Day”
Chrystilla Miles – Divsion Manager, Department of Neighborhoods Inspections & Public Service Division - City of Houston, TX
This is a fun and interactive class that deals with safety for code officers, field inspectors or staff in general. Safety is not only the local governments’ responsibility but also yours as an employee. Venture into how to better protect ourselves in the office or in the field. What steps to put in place for working in a safer environment. Focus is on how we can make it home at the end of our shifts to our families and loved ones. We will discuss the unexpected things that may come up during a work day and how we react when put into volatile situations. “Normal is not normal and common sense is not common”
12:00p - 2:00p – “Emerging Leader Success Academy” Pt 1
Joan Kling , MSEL, PCC, Leadership Coach - Eastbay, CA
A two-part group session focused on addressing the most pressing needs of first-time leaders. Attendees will learn simple strategies to help with; making new connections and support team, fighting "Imposter Syndrome", how to deal when burdened with self-doubt fears and frustrations of how to be effective in this demanding role, as well as managing teams effectively.
2:00p – 3:30p – A Women’s Perspective: Law Enforcement and Code Enforcement – “We are not One of the Guys”
Elizabeth Krzyminski, Senior Housing/Zoning Inspector, RRIO Auditor - City of Seattle, WA
This course serves as a woman’s perspective of transitioning from law enforcement to code enforcement and the lessons learned along the way. This presentation will prepare the participant on how to use your gender as an asset. Participants will learn of and share an experience in which they've tapped into a previous career to get today’s work done, how they used their gender "tactically", gained allies outside of Code Enforcement, as well as discuss programs they've embraced to obtain success as a Code Enforcement Professional.
Day Two

Hear from a remarkable and diverse group of women leaders who have broken through the glass ceiling landing elevated professional success. These women will share their unique journey as well as discuss what it takes to attain leadership roles and how to lead effective teams.
12:30 – 1:30pm – "Made For This"

In recent years, we have seen a rise in the participation of women in the workforce. Many of these women come with a wealth of untapped potential that is ready to reinvigorate code programs in ways that will shape them to be robust and successful. In this course we will discuss how to get past the fear factor to get “unstuck” so that attendees can give themselves a fair chance to pursue and achieve the goals they have set for themselves.
1:30-3:00pm – "Women In (Em) Power"
Krystal Patterson – Assistant Director/Interim Director - City of North Miami Code Compliance, FL
Women In (Em) Power will explore how and why female leaders “In power” can so effectively “Empower.” We’ll explore how being in power which is the ability to influence the behavior of others falls on the heels of being empowered which is the authority or POWER to make one stronger and more confident. Further, this session will take a deeper dive into core soft skills women innately possess that contribute positively when in power; leadership styles, how to identify your style, and empowering us to realize that our weaknesses can be strengths. This session will be instructional and interactive as we seek to empower each registrant to be in power!
